Aviation career awareness roadshow in KZN
Durban, South Africa – 5 December 2016: Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC Ltd and its aviation partners – today launched a career awareness road-show in Harding, KZN, as a precursor to the Aviation Youth Summit and International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) celebrations, scheduled to take place in Durban and Margate Regional Airport respectively.
All afore-mentioned events are taking place under the auspices of the Department of Transport, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, and in conjunction with aviation industry stakeholders, organized under the banner of Joint Aviation Awareness Program (JAAP).
ATNS, as a founding-member of JAAP believes in investing, identifying and nurturing talent, by exposing learners, particularly in rural areas – to careers in Air Traffic Management and Aeronautical Engineering. Over the years, ATNS has and continues to steadfastly support JAAP’s outreach programmes that include among others, the promotion of aviation as a career of choice amongst Grade 09 – 12 learners, specifically those studying Pure Mathematics, English and Physical Science.
On Wednesday, 7 December 2016, over three-hundred (300) youth aged between 18 and 35 years, will converge at the Dube Trade Port, King Shaka International Airport precinct, to attend the inaugural Aviation Youth Summit. The Minister of Transport and KZN Provincial Premier are expected to be present.
The Summit aims to bring together relevant stakeholders to discuss, among others, strengthening of dialogue between Government, youth and broader society on issues of youth development and its impediments, and to encourage and empower youth with skills to conquer the 21st century.
ICAD will be celebrated on Saturday, 10 December 2016, at the Margate Regional Airport, KZN. Aircraft enthusiasts will be treated to a breath-taking military and civil airshow.
ICAD reinforces global awareness around the importance of international civil aviation in the social and economic development of all countries. Established back in 1994 and endorsed by the United Nations (UN) – and recognized and listed as an official UN Day, ICAD is meant to also promote safety, efficiency and regularity of international air transport.
Over three-thousand (3000) learners are expected to attend an aviation career exhibition, which will be held on Friday, 9 December 2016.
