Deputy Minister to visit Port of Cape Town for Operation Phakisa Progress

Cape Town-The Deputy Minister of Transport,  Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga will visit the Sturrock Dock within the Port of Cape Town to monitor progress made by the Transnet National Port Authority in implementing projects under the Marine Transport and Manufacturing (MTM) on Friday, 10 February 2017.

MTM is one of the six focus areas of Operations Phakisa which is a government initiative that focuses on unlocking the potential of South Africa’s oceans economy.

There are eighteen initiatives under the MTM which focuses on infrastructure and operations, skills and capacity building as well as market growth.

Deputy Minister Chikunga will be viewing the on-going refurbishment and maintenance facilities as part of the initiatives that falls within the MTM.

To date, a total of 278 construction related jobs have been created through Initiative five.
