East London – Eastern Cape. 18 July 2017: As an organisation invested in Nelson Mandela’s vision for South Africa, the Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) invests a lot of time and resources into enriching the lives of the future leaders of South Africa. “We pride ourselves, that as an organisation we invest our social budget into developing high-level technical skills, that allow our recipients to grow into entrepreneurs, or to become employees of specialised organisations like ATNS ” said Thabani Mthiyane, ATNS CEO.

This year, in honour of our former president and global hero, Nelson Mandela, ATNS CSI Fellows spent their 18th of July in East London at Masizakhe Child and Youth Care Center. As part of the organisation’s investment into the youth of this country, ATNS has refurbished this orphanage in Mdantsane, East London. “It is important to our mandate, as ATNS, to not only develop under privileged children from cities, but to also focus on rural areas and bring a unique offering to these communities that give these children a broader offering than what they are normally used to” said Mthiyane.

ATNS provided a range of necessities including; new doors, washing machine, plasma TV, new curtains, bedding as well as study desks. A group of approximately 20 fellows from head office in Johannesburg, as well as local Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) spent the day in this community.

Furthermore, ATNS offers recipients that truly excel the opportunity, to participate in programmes that offer internationally accredited aviation assessments that could ultimately lead to employment within the industry.

“We are extremely proud of the work that we do in the rural areas, and aspire to keep Nelson Mandela’s legacy alive through these kinds of efforts,” concluded Mthiyane.
