Taxi and car collide on N2 at Umgababa

February 22, 2017 • Accidents, Car, Taxi

At 15h21 on Wednesday afternoon Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a collision on the N2 south just before the Umgababa off ramp. Reports from the scene indicate that a VW Polo was traveling towards Durban when he hit a big puddle of water, veered across the centre median, rolled and struck a taxi traveling along the South Bound lane. Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events is still speculative and will form part of the South African Police investigation.

Paramedics and the Fire department arrived at the scene and found that the car had come to rest on its roof with the driver still trapped in the wreckage. The taxi pulled off the road about three hundred metres from the point of impact.

After the injured were triaged, it was established that the driver of the VW sustained life-threatening injuries while five people from the taxi sustained minor injuries. The critically injured man was treated at the scene and after he was placed on a ventilator by the Provincial paramedic, they transported him to hospital for further care.

The injured taxi commuters were treated at the scene and then transported to various hospitals for the care that they required.
