Road user shares photos of potholes causing damage to vehicles in the Free State

March 7, 2017 • Accidents, Car

The following email was shared with road authorities in the Free State as well as the Arrive Alive website:

“Last Friday at 22h00 I had the privilege to drive into one of your potholes (Free State side) at the Ascot bridge over the Vaal river. There were at least FOUR cars parked on the side of the rode due to the utter negligence of keeping roads in a good condition.

I had to get the wheel alignment fixed on my car costing me R250. I had to travel especially from Deneysville to Vanderbijlpark and back to get this done. Hopefully there are not other damages which I can not see. Hopefully I saved the rim by hammering it back into shape. Whilst doing this I was thinking about getting you as well into shape to wake up and start doing your work that you get paid for by my tax money.

What are the causes for not fixing roads? Is it utter negligence, lack of proper training, laziness, wrong people doing the job or just sheer ‘cannot care a hoot’.
