Five suspects to appear in court for stock theft after being nabbed by police in Greylingstad

NELSPRUIT – Five suspects, aged between 29 and 43, are expected to appear in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court today, Friday 19 September 2025. The five were arrested by the Police in Greylingstad on Wednesday, 17 September 2025 around 04h20 am. The suspects are facing charges of possession of suspected stolen properties.

According to a report, Police members were conducting patrols along the R23 Road when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with a heavy load. The members stopped the said vehicle but the driver attempted to distract officers from inspecting the vehicle. There were also other four occupants inside the car (excluding the driver). Be as it may, the vigilant officers searched the vehicle and it was during this time when they discovered a bulk of meat. Members were convinced that the animals thereof could have been recently slaughtered. None of the five could provide a valid explanation regarding the origin of the meat or identify the owner of the slaughtered animals.

It was during this period when the five suspects were apprehended then charged for possession of suspected stolen properties. Police at this stage cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges in relation to stock theft, as the investigation continues.

The investigators managed to locate the complainant who had recently reported stolen livestock and great possibilities are that the recovered properties belong to this particular complainant.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has hailed the arrest of the suspects as well as the recovery of the properties. The General further commended the men and women in Blue for their vigilance. “The arrest demonstrates the calibre of members that we have within the Service. The issue of stocktheft remains our priority as the Police and we continue to work hard in order to eradicate. However the Crack of the matter is that, people should refrain from buying suspected stolen properties. By doing so, the market for perpetrators will not flourish, ” said the General.
