DURBAN – Police in KwaZulu-Natal are hard at work in ridding communities of unlawfully owned firearms. This dedication by police officers has resulted in the recovery of eight (8) unlicenced firearms, including four rifles.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, 25 October 2025, police operationalised intelligence and proceeded to a house at Mbumbulu. After the occupant of the house consented to the house being searched, police found five (5) firearms, which included three (3) AK 47 assault rifles, one (1) R1 rifle, a 9mm pistol as well as 93 round ammunitions of different calibre of firearms. Initial investigations revealed that a person who was staying in the room in which the firearms were found had left, and no one knew his whereabouts.
In another operation on Thursday, 23 October 2025, the Provincial Tracing Team conducted an information driven operation at Emabovini area in Msinga and arrested a 38-year-old suspect for possession of unlicenced pistol and ammunition. On the same date, Public Order Policing (POP) members conducted an operation at Matsheni area, where they arrested a 48-year-old suspect for being in possession of a roll of copper wire as well as an unlicenced firearm with eleven (11) rounds of ammunition. The team thereafter proceeded to another target where they arrested a 42-year-old suspect who was found in possession of an unlicenced firearm, two magazines, and thirty-eight (38) rounds of ammunition.
The arrested suspects appeared at Msinga and Bergville Magistrates courts respectively on Friday, 24 October 2025, and are currently out on bail.
