Operation Shanela II arrests teenager for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Ravensmead

In their quest to provide a safer environment for the communities in the Western Cape, members attached to Operation Shanela II arrested a 19-year-old suspect for the possession of a unlicensed firearm on Sunday, 27 July 2025 at 19:15. This comes in the wake of several shootings incidents reported in Ravensmead policing precinct.

The members were busy with stop and search operations when they noticed a suspicious looking male walking along Connaught Road. When the man saw the patrol vehicle approaching, he changed direction, which resulted in the police members giving chase. The members apprehended the suspect and confiscated CZ pistol, which was found in his possession. He was detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Once charged, the suspect will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charge.

Western Cape police management applauded the team for their vigilance, which led to the removal of a firearm which threaten the safety of the public.
