Police multidisciplinary operation, takedown of undocumented persons in Theunissen
The Vala Umgodi disciplines Combat and Proactive teams, in a joint multidisciplinary operation with the Department of Home Affairs, have arrested 11 undocumented foreign nationals in and around Theunissen. The operation, which took place on Sunday, 3 August 2025, targeted illegal immigration, illicit mining and related activities.
The operation commenced with a roadblock on the R30 near Theunissen. During the roadblock, officers intercepted a taxi and a private vehicle, leading to the arrest of six female foreign nationals aged between 29 and 44. All six were found to be in the country without the necessary documentation.
Following the roadblock, the teams conducted a disruptive operation within the Theunissen central business district (CBD). This phase of the operation resulted in the arrest of six more undocumented foreign nationals who were found working in foreign-owned shops.
In total, 17 individuals were brought in for questioning. Six were released after they successfully produced valid documentation proving their legal status in the country. The remaining 11 individuals have been charged with contravening the Immigration Act.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Theunissen Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
