Ten suspects arrested for unlicensed firearms and stolen property in Nyanga

Today (Wednesday, 2015-09-09) in a period of two hours Nyanga SAPS members arrested 10 people for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and stolen property. First firearm was seized in Marks Tyam Street, Lusaka, Nyanga. Members followed up on an armed robbery case and found seven suspects inside a shack. They searched the shack and found a 9mm star. All seven men were arrested.

This was followed by an arrest of a man after members received information of an armed individual.  Members spotted the suspect while patrolling in the street. The suspect tried to run but was caught with an unlicensed 9mm firearm.

This culminated to the arrest of two Somalian nationals who were stopped while driving on the corner of Bristol and Eisleben Road in Browns Farm. On searching the vehicle a 9mm Taurus and 16 rounds of ammunition were recovered underneath the driver’s seat.

All suspects aged between 17 and 28 are in custody and will all appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Thursday, 2015-09-10) for the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police will continue to intensify these operations in order to clean the streets of the Nyanga policing precinct.
