Disruptive Operation: Verulam & Surrounding – KZN

A multi-organisation Disruptive Operation was conducted in Verulam and surrounding areas, KwaZulu-Natal today (Friday), coordinated by the Verulam SAPS and led by Captain Mark Prakasim.

The operation commenced in the Verulam CBD – KZN, targeting known hotspots for criminal activity. Early in the operation, several drug users were apprehended along the railway line near the Verulam Magistrates Court on Moss Street in the Central Business District (CBD).

The operation involved a robust convoy comprising of members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Metro Police, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the Verulam Business Forum (VBF), Community Policing Forum (CPF), and various security companies.

Following the initial arrests, the convoy proceeded to a housing complex in Cornubia, KZN, for a targeted raid on a residence suspected of purchasing stolen goods. First Responders swiftly converged on the property, where they recovered damaged copper pipes and taps believed to have been stolen from residential properties by drug users (pictures 3 & 4). Additionally, copper cables suspected to be stolen were also seized.

Additional operations of this nature are anticipated for the near future.
