Suspects face charges for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition
WESTERN CAPE – The endeavours by the South African Police Service to rid the street of the illegal possession of firearms in the hands of criminals led to the arrest of suspects who were found in possession of unlicensed firearms in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 08 October 2025.
Members of Public Order Policing were conducting foot patrols in the Paarl East area to curb shootings and robberies in the area when they searched a male in Lovers Lane, Paarl East. They found a 9mm pistol and a .38 Special revolver with ammunition in his possession. The 48-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention, members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team conducted an intelligence driven operation in Ouhout Street, Delft, where they searched the premises and confiscated two 9mm pistols without serial numbers and ammunition. They arrested two suspects aged 32 and 38 for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Once charged, the suspects will make their court appearances in Paarl and Bellville, respectively.
