Together in pink with steps of strength

October 30, 2025 • News

On Wednesday 29 October 2025, approximately 1 500 members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) gathered at Muizenberg Beach for a 10-km walk along the breathtaking coastline in solidarity with breast-cancer awareness. The event, organized by City of Cape Town District Women’s Network, united police districts across the Western Cape in a vibrant demonstration of support for those living with or impacted by the disease, with participants donning pink ribbons and symbolic hues to underline the message of hope. The walk coincided with October’s designation as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer remains a critical health concern for women across the world, with early detection, regular screening, and timely treatment recognised as the most effective defence and means of saving lives. Studies suggest that community-driven initiatives such as this walk play a key role in raising public consciousness, reducing stigma and encouraging action. Participants were urged to perform self-examinations, schedule clinical screenings and adopt healthier lifestyles to enhance overall resilience. Together, the SAPS and local community reaffirmed that the fight against breast cancer is shared and that visibility, awareness and collective care are fundamental to turning the tide.
