Two suspects arrested in separate intelligence-driven operations conducted in the Vhembe and Waterberg Districts

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has arrested two suspects in separate intelligence-driven operations conducted in the Vhembe and Waterberg Districts on Wednesday, 08 July 2026.

In the first incident, members of Musina working together with the Musina Task Team, Musina Crime Prevention and the Beitbridge Task Team, conducted an intelligence-led operation at Mushongoville in Musina following information about a suspect allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

During the operation, police searched a green Toyota Camry parked at Elias Ramabulane Street near a Spaza Shop. The search led to the recovery of a black Pistolet Automatique MAB pistol, one magazine and two live rounds of ammunition.

The vehicle owner, a 28-year-old foreign national, was immediately arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The firearm and the vehicle, with a combined estimated value of R165 000, were seized for further police investigation.

In a separate incident, members of the Waterberg Flying Squad (Modimolle Base) responded to information received regarding suspected stolen property in Naboomspruit.

Police proceeded to a premises situated at Thabo Mbeki Street, where they found a 37-year-old suspect in possession of three laptops. The suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or proof of ownership of the laptops and was immediately arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. The recovered laptops were seized as part of the investigation.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, commended the members involved for their swift response and effective intelligence-driven operations, saying the arrests demonstrate the SAPS’ continued commitment to removing illegal firearms from communities and recovering suspected stolen property.

Suspect arrested in Naboomspruit is expected to appear before the Mookgophong Magistrate’s Courts on Friday, 10 July 2026, meanwhile suspect arrested in Musina will soon appear before the local Magistrate’s Court.

Police investigations into both cases are continuing.
