De Aar police apprehend two suspects for stock theft
The South African Police Service in the Pixley Ka Seme District has noted with concern the recent increase in reported cases of stock theft.
Farmers are urged to follow and implement the SAPS stock theft safety tips and measures, regularly shared via media platforms to safeguard their livestock.
On Sunday, 10 August 2025, at approximately 11:00, police in De Aar received information about three unknown men standing at a hiking spot near a farm in De Aar.
The men were reportedly carrying bags suspected to contain meat.
Acting on the tip-off, SAPS members proceeded to the location and identified the three individuals matching the description provided.
With the assistance of members of the Highway Patrol, the suspects were searched, and meat was discovered in the bags they were carrying.
Subsequent investigations led police to a farm in the De Aar district, where it was established that the meat was from an alleged stolen Stud Dorper ram valued at approximately R50 000-00.
The suspects, aged 20, 50, and 52, were arrested and charged with stock theft.
The District Commissioner of Pixley Ka Seme, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended the members for their swift response and decisive action in ensuring the suspects were brought to justice.
