A vehicle and driver fitness check conducted on the N17 freeway.

On Friday 17 October 2025, the Ekurhileni Metropolitan Police department (EMPD) Freeway unit Officers, together with the Intervention Unit Officers, Community Liaison (CLU) Officers and Overload Unit Officers, conducted a vehicle and driver fitness check on the N17 freeway.

As part of an ongoing operations for transport month, the units set up a road block to intensifie law enforcement, through roadside checkpoints and inspections, to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and drivers have valid licenses and permits.

During the operation, nine x9 illegal foreign nationals were arrested, one x1 suspect arrested for fraud, five x5 vehicles were impounded and a total of twenty-eight x28 summons were issued to motorist who did not comply with the rules of the road.

Our officers will be on the ground 24/7 as these operations will continue throughout the city of Ekurhuleni to ensure and maintain safety.
