Two suspects arrested for dealing in drugs during operation Safer Festive Season

CHRIS HANI – The Chris Hani District Task Team arrested two suspects for allegations of possession and dealing in drugs during an Operation Safer Festive Season conducted on Sunday, 21 December 2025.

The operation focused on high-visibility policing in identified hotspot areas and included stop-and-search actions, searches for illegal firearms, the closure of illegal shebeens, and efforts to curb drug trafficking within the district.

At the first scene in Ilinge, police recovered 80 tik straws weighing 28.48 grams, with an estimated street value of R4 000.00. A 26-year-old suspect was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs.

In a separate incident, a 34-year-old suspect was arrested after being found in possession of 25 tik straws weighing more than 10.7 grams and six boss mandrax tablets, collectively valued at more than R1 800.00. An undisclosed amount of cash was also recovered.

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Ezibeleni Magistrate’s Court on 23 December 2025 on charges of possession and dealing in drugs.

The District Commissioner of Chris Hani District, Major General Rudolph Adolph, highly commended the District Task Team for the drug sweeping operation, stating that such efforts will positively impact crime statistics within the district.
