Targeted learner transport operation at Bushveld Road and Ikhaya Street in Mabopane to enhance road safety.

January 27, 2026 • News

On 26 January 2026, the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), in partnership with Gauteng Traffic Police and the South African Police Service (SAPS), conducted a targeted learner transport operation at Bushveld Road and Ikhaya Street in Mabopane to enhance road safety.

This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts since the 2026 school year reopening, targeting public transport especially those carrying children. A total of 33 vehicles were impounded on 25 and 26 January 2026 for non-compliance, which includes four buses deemed unroadworthy and operating without valid permits.

The joint operation rigorously inspected vehicles for safety standards, driver credentials, and legal documentation amid growing concerns over scholar transport risks. It builds on recent TMPD successes, such as the 23 January 2026 Akasia where 30 vehicles were impounded for similar violations.

The TMPD will not be deterred by any act of lawlessness aimed at discouraging our officers from executing their mandated duties.
