Suspect arrested at Golela Port of Entry for being in possession of an illegal substance

Yesterday at approximately 10:45, a suspect was arrested as he entered the Golela Port of Entry for being in possession of an illegal substance assumed to be heroin. The members posted at the Port of Entry were doing their normal patrols when they stopped the vehicle and conducted a search.

The suspect was carrying a backpack with a false compartment containing a 1,128 kilograms powder, with an estimated street value of more than R789 000, 00; he was arrested and charged for possession of drugs.

The man is being detained at Pongola SAPS as the investigation by Organised Crime members continues and he will appear in the Pongola Magistrate’s Court today.

Last week, suspects, Asha Salum Msafari (33) and Juma Ramadhani Mwaikuka (33) were arrested after being found with 2,5 kg’s of heroin while crossing the Port of Entry. They already appeared in the Pongola Magistrate’s Court for possession of drugs.
