Several injured in road crashes in KZN

Paramedics from the Department of Health’s Emergency Medical Services have responded to several road crashes over the past few hours.

One incident occurred on Willowfortien road in the Pietermaritzburg area. A mother and her two small children were injured when their bakkie crashed down an embankment and come to rest on its roof in a small river. The woman had sustained serious injuries, while the children had sustained minor injuries. They were treated on scene before being transported to hospital.

On Gorgedale road in the Cato Ridge area, a collision involving a minibus and truck has left nine people injured. The jaws of life had to be used to extricate one of the occupants of the minibus, who was in a critical condition. Eight other people were injured in the crash, five patients were in a serious condition, while the remaining patients had sustained minor injuries.

In Murchison on the KZN south coast on the N2 freeway, a collision at around 8am has left three people injured. The crash involved a bakkie and cars. One patient was in a serious condition while two people had sustained minor injuries.

The police will investigate the exact cause of the crashes.
