Rural school learners encouraged to follow careers in aviation

Johannesburg, South Africa – 26 April 2016. Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC Limited has encouraged Ramohlakana Secondary School learners to consider following careers in aviation. Currently, eight (8) matriculants (see attached image) – from a total of thirty-three (33) – are studying pure Mathematics at the school.
This group of learners will be able to follow Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) and Air Traffic Control (ATC) careers at ATNS.

The company will offer qualifying learners AIM and ATC bursaries at the end of 2016 academic year – to study full-time at its prestigious, award-winning Aviation Training Academy, situated near OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg. Admissions requirements are matric pass with Level 4 / HG – D or SG C in both Pure Mathematic and English, and being medically fit – among others.

Yesterday, the Deputy Minister of the Department of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, officially opened an ATNS-ponsored Science Centre at the school, which houses an ICT library and a Science Laboratory.

Through ATNS’ intervention, Science is now offered at this school as part of curriculum. The Limpopo Provincial Department of Education has accredited the school to offer the subject to Grade eight (8) learners – commencing this academic year.

2020 will see the first-ever group of Science matric learners sitting for their final year exams at Ramohlakana Secondary School.
