Vehicle search leads to arrest for illegal diamond smuggling in Klawer area

Western Cape : This afternoon members attached by the Western Cape K9 Unit assisted by colleagues from SAPS and other law enforcement agencies reacted to information of illegal diamond smuggling in the Klawer area.

The suspect’s vehicle was spotted close to the Klawer weighbridge and stopped. The four occupants and the vehicle were searched which led to the discovery of a small parcel with eight uncut diamonds. One suspect, a 48 year old male from Eerterivier claimed ownership of the diamonds and he was arrested.

Once charged, the suspect is due to make a court appearance for the illegal possession of uncut diamonds, of which the value is yet to be established.
