Arrests made and drugs seized in police stop-and -search in Port Elizabeth

Police in Mount Road cluster last night arrested two suspects in separate incidents for dealing in drugs. The SAPS in Port Elizabeth is committed to stopping the drug trade in the metro and will intensify their efforts to ensure that those dealing in drugs are arrested and that their trade no longer exist.

On 6 October 2016 at about 22:15, members from Mount Road station assisted by the K9 unit were patrolling Cape Road when they spotted a silver Toyota Yaris. The vehicle was stopped and searched. Nineteen bags of cocaine and 9 pieces of rock cocaine was found inside the vehicle.

The estimated value of the drugs is R8000. A 40 year old suspect was detained on a charge of dealing in drugs and is expected to appear in court soon.
On 7 October 2016 at about 00:45 police followed up on information received about possible drug activities at a house in Missionvale in Algoa Park area. The suspect was at home and police seized dagga with an estimated street value of R18, 438 as well as a small amount of cash. A 40 year old female was arrested and detained on a charge of dealing in dagga. She is expected to appear in court soon.

Drugs and substance abuse contribute largely to the commission of various crimes, including serious and violent crimes. Many suspects are intoxicated or under the influence of illegal substances when they commit crime. People who are involved in illicit drugs are harming society especially the youth and we will continue to crack down on these unlawful substances.
