The strike was confirmed after wage talks reached a deadlock.
Bus drivers across South Africa will not report for duty on Wednesday as they embark on a nationwide strike.

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) confirmed the strike will commence at 5:30am. The union is accusing employers of pulling out of negotiations.

Unions are demanding a 12% wage increase across the board – with a minimum basic wage of R8000.

It’s understood that employers are offering a three year agreement; with 7% for the first year, 7.25% in 2019 and 7.5% for 2020.

Employers at the bargaining council have reportedly approached the CCMA to resolve the matter.

Various bus services have apologised for the inconvenience and asked their customers to make alternative arrangements.
