Completed infrastructure projects in Impendle

Three infrastructure projects which have been completed and officially opened by the Department include the first phases of main roads P129 and P130 as well as the completed Dlavudlavu Vehicle Bridge within the Impendle Local Municipality. The roads link Impendle town with other nearby towns including Howick, Mooi River and Underberg.

The P130 project entails the upgrade of 21.918 kilometres of gravel road to blacktop standards at an estimated construction cost of R697.9 million. P130 starts from Dargle and ends in the Impendle area, serving as a feeder road. The first phase which included the construction of the Dlavudlavu Bridge was completed at a cost of R132.33 million. The road and bridge serves as access for the KwaThunzi community, Siminza High School, Stoffelton Primary School, Thunzi Primary School, as well as the Broteni/Stoffelton Clinic and other amenities in Impendle.

The completed phase of road P129 is 3 km long at a cost of R46.3 million. The road will be 15,5 km when completed with a total estimated cost will be R398.5million. P129 serves as a feeder road to the large and widespread population of Nxamalala Traditional Council and also provides access to Lugaju Junior Primary, Mazwendoda Senior Secondary and Inzinga Schools as well Nxamalala Clinic and Traditional Council.

Over 270 community members benefitted from employment on these projects.
