Upgrade of Main Road P68 at Ugu District Municipality
Main Road P68 is located from Assisi to St. Faiths to Port Shepstone. It falls under the Umzumbe and Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipalities, under iNkosi Cele, iNkosi Mbhele and iNkosi Lushaba. This road serves the Assisi, Oshabeni, Mehlomnyama, Dweshula, Mseni, Skhaleni, Khakhamela and Mabheleni communities by providing access to 25 schools. It also provides access to 2 clinics, a police station as well as the Mehlomnyama Pension pay-point.
The project entailed upgrading 48.8 kilometres of gravel road to a blacktop surface and the construction of 8 major structures at a total cost of R521.9 million.
This project was successfully completed in 2015/16 financial year at a total cost of R521.9 million. The project created 937 work opportunities.
