Illegal mining suspects arrested in Giyani
The illicit mining task team in the Mopani District in Limpopo has arrested two male suspects aged between 27 and 35 for illegal mining activity in homo C, Giyani on Tuesday 20 January 2026.
Their apprehension emanates from the disruptive illicit mining operation conducted at Mopani by the Police Illicit Mining Task Team, Tzaneen TRT, and Public Order Policing Units at Giyani, at Homo C village. The police received tip-off about illegal mining activities. The information was operationalised, leading to the apprehension of two suspects, while others evaded the arrest.
During the arrest, illegal mining equipment was confiscated.
The suspects will appear before Giyani Magistrate’s Court soon facing a charge of the contravention of the Immigration Act and illegal mining.
