Dealer in illicit cigarettes arrested
Members of the #SAPS Provincial Flying Squad in Limpopo were on duty when they received intelligence information regarding a white Toyota Corolla with Gauteng registration plates, allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit Remington Gold cigarettes within Westernburg, Seshego, and Polokwane policing areas.
A lookout operation was immediately activated, and the vehicle was traced and intercepted on the R37 road en route to Lebowakgomo.
Upon stopping and searching the vehicle, members discovered a consignment of illicit Remington Gold cigarettes with an estimated value of R50 000. During questioning, the driver confirmed that he was responsible for delivering the illicit cigarettes within the area. He further indicated that he is a Zimbabwean national and was found to be in the country illegally.
The suspect, a 40-year-old male, was arrested and charged with possession of illicit cigarettes and contravention of the Immigration Act (illegal immigration).
The suspect is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 April 2026.
