Successful recovery of a hijacked vehicle at Karino, outside Nelspruit.
A joint operation by members of the Provincial Anti-Hijacking Task Team (Ehlanzeni), Kanyamazane Crime Prevention Unit, and Cartrack led to the successful recovery of a hijacked vehicle on Friday, 29 May 2026.
At approximately 18:30, members were conducting tracking, tracing, and crime prevention operations in the Pienaar and Kanyamazane policing areas when information was received regarding the hijacking of a white Toyota Fortuner, bearing Gauteng registration number plates, in the Pienaar area.
The vehicle had reportedly been hijacked approximately 15 minutes prior to the information being relayed to the operational team.
Members immediately mobilised and collaborated with the vehicle tracking company, leading to the vehicle being subsequently recovered after being possibly abandoned by the suspect(s) in a place called Karino, outside Nelspruit.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had fled the scene with the vehicle’s keys before the arrival of the police. Investigations are underway in an attempt to trace and apprehend the suspects involved.
No arrests have been made at this stage, and investigations continue.
