The District Commissioner is grateful for the successes achieved over the weekend
CHLOORKOP – Major General Anna Sithole expressed gratitude after 222 suspects were arrested, an illegal firearm was removed from the streets, and an illegal liquor outlet was closed between Friday, 24, and Sunday, 26 October 2025, across the Ekurhuleni District.
Among the arrested suspects, 124 were nabbed by Detectives across the district for contact crimes, contact-related crimes, other serious crimes, and gender-based violence.
In other areas within Ekurhuleni, most suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, dealing and possession of drugs, theft, malicious damage to property, and being illegal immigrants.
In the Sebenza area, on Friday, 24 October 2025, at about 11:30, police responded to a complaint of attempted armed robbery on Beech Street, Cresslawn, where suspects driving a silver Polo attempted to commit a robbery. Police immediately began searching for the vehicle and spotted it around Cresslawn. When officers tried to stop it, the driver sped off toward Zuurfontein Road, leading to a chase. Three suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Two were shot at, while one managed to escape with a gunshot wound.
Police arrested the remaining two suspects, aged 40 and 43, one of whom had a leg wound. A Glock Austria firearm with ten rounds of ammunition was recovered from the suspects. Both will face charges of attempted armed robbery, attempted murder, and possession of an unlawful firearm.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, praised SAPS members and law enforcement agencies for their effective crime prevention operations and commended the swift response by Sebenza police in protecting the community.
