Two suspects nabbed for firearm-related offences and theft cases in Northam and Mokwakwaila
The South African Police Service in Limpopo has intensified its operations against firearm-related and property crimes, resulting in the arrest of two suspects aged 36 and 41 during separate operations conducted in Northam under Waterberg District and Mokwakwaila under Mopani District on Sunday, 09 November 2025.
In the first incident, members of Northam Detectives, Rustenburg Tactical Response Team (TRT), and Thabazimbi Detectives through intelligence-driven joint operation, successfully apprehended a 41-year-old male suspect linked to a theft out of a motor vehicle case committed in Northam during October 2025.
The multidisciplinary team received information about the suspect’s whereabouts in Boitekong, North West Province. The team immediately activated a coordinated operation and, with backup from Rustenburg TRT, managed to locate and arrest the suspect
During the operation, police recovered a pistol with cartridges and a magazine, along with a laptop and iPhone that had been stolen. Some of the stolen property had already been sold to different individuals. Later, while tracing the firearm, police were informed about a bag left at a local tavern. Upon searching it, the firearm was recovered. Rustenburg LCRC attended the scene for further processing.
In a separate operation in Femane Village, Mokwakwaila policing area under the Mopani District, police arrested a 36-year-old male suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Police responded swiftly to a tip-off from community members who were chasing a suspect believed to be in possession of a firearm. Upon arrival, police found that the suspect had already been assaulted by the community. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had thrown the firearm into a local river after being cornered. The 9mm pistol was recovered without a magazine, and the serial number had been filed off.
The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the involved units and community members for their swift and coordinated action.
” We appreciate the cooperation from community members, but urge them to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report any criminal activity directly to the police,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
Both suspects will appear before their respective Magistrate’s Courts soon.
