Male suspect arrested for possession of two unlicenced firearms

NGQELENI – Police in the OR Tambo District have seized two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, arresting a 42-year-old suspect in Mampondomise. The operation, driven by gathered intelligence, took place on the evening of 29 December 2025 and highlights the police’s focus on removing illegal weapons from communities.

Ngqeleni police pounced on the suspect’s homestead with a search warrant and recovered a Star 9mm Pistol having two rounds of live ammunition and a Flywheel Revolver without ammunition. Both firearms have erased serial numbers with the suspect having no firearm licences authorizing him to possess such firearms.

The suspect was arrested immediately and due to appear before Ngqeleni Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 31 December 2025 on charges of unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.

OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana applauded Ngqeleni Police for their unwavering commitment in making OR Tambo District a safe place to live in by eradicating unlicensed/illegal firearms which are mostly used in commission of serious and violent crimes.
