Two suspects, aged 14 and 20, arrested and face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Welkom
The proactive efforts by the members of the South African Police Service to rid the streets of illegal firearms, yielded positive results early this morning when two suspects, including a minor, were apprehended in Welkom.
At approximately 04:00, members of Welkom Platoon 01, Section 1 were conducting routine patrols near Flamingo. The officers received a tip-off regarding two males behaving suspiciously outside a filling station on Constantia Road.
Acting swiftly on the information, the members approached the two individuals. Upon conducting a search of their belongings, police discovered one black and silver Norinco pistol, four live rounds of ammunition and one black balaclava.
The two suspects, aged 14 and 20, were immediately arrested and face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
