Operation Shanela at a roadblock on Black Road.
Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Tommy Mthombeni, is leading the multi-disciplinary team of #OperationShanela at a roadblock on Black Road.
The purpose of the roadblock is to search for drugs, illicit goods, contraband, unlicensed firearms or any illegal goods. So far, more than 25 people have been arrested for possession of drugs, contravening the Immigration Act and possession of unlicensed firearms. Four liquor outlets have also been closed and owners given fines for operating without a licence.
The first phase of the operation started the previous night with the tracing of wanted suspects throughout the province. The detectives arrested a total of 996 wanted suspects for serious and violent crimes, of which 236 are for gender-based violence.
