High-visibility compliance inspections and a roadblock between SAPS and the Traffic Department on the N8
Xhariep District Command Center conducted high-visibility police actions together with the POCC command structure, represented by Colonel Nyeliwe. During the operation, compliance inspections and a roadblock between SAPS and the Traffic Department on the N8 were carried out.
The operation started at a tuckshop in town where members conducted inspections and checked compliance. One 28-year-old suspect was arrested for dealing in dagga. Police confiscated dagga with a street value of R650 and cash believed to be the proceeds of crime.
At another location, a 28-year-old suspect was arrested on a warrant of arrest for failing to appear in court after being charged with assault GBH. Another 31-year-old suspect was apprehended for assault GBH after he allegedly assaulted two children aged 15 and 10, with a belt for not completing household chores.
Following intelligence-led operations, police arrested a 28-year-old suspect for dealing in dagga. A consignment with a street value of R1 210.00 and cash were confiscated.
During the operation, members followed up on an incident reported earlier this morning, where a suspect allegedly attempted to disarm a female police officer at the Community Service Centre (CSC) in Petrusburg.
The complainant, who is also a police officer, reported that on 12 March 2026 at approximately 03:05, the suspect, Papi Leeuw, arrived at the CSC stating he had heard SAPS members were looking for him. He was asked to return later as detectives were not on duty. Leeuw left but returned and banged on the door, forcing it open. He then attempted to disarm the complainant, leading to a struggle. The suspect fled the CSC and another struggle occurred at the entrance gate, where he again attempted to disarm the officer. The complainant fired a warning shot, after which the suspect fled on foot. The CSC entrance door was damaged during the incident and cannot currently be locked.
The drugs and money confiscated during the operation will be used as evidence in court proceedings.
