Kwazakele SAPS arrests a 17-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm
Kwazakele SAPS members continue to make strides in removing illegal firearms from the streets, following the arrest of a 17-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm on Friday, 25 April 2026.
At approximately 11:50, members attached to Kwazakele Community Service Centre (CSC) were conducting patrols in identified hotspot areas when they received information from a community member while at a petrol station in Struandale. The information related to a male suspect reportedly in possession of a firearm at a nearby park in the Struandale area, along with a description of the clothing he was wearing.
Police responded swiftly and proceeded to the location. Upon arrival, members spotted two males, one of whom matched the provided description. As police approached, both suspects fled on foot.
Members gave chase and successfully apprehended the identified suspect in Paarl Street, Struandale.
Upon searching the suspect, members recovered a silver and black 9mm STAR pistol. The firearm had no magazine and no ammunition. The suspect was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.
The suspect was detained at Kwazakele SAPS and later released into the custody of his parent/guardian. He will appear at the Nerina Magistrate court during the week.
