Suspect arrested for possession of two illegal firearms

The Ficksburg police have arrested a 25-year-old man from Mpumalanga Province for possession of two illegal firearms, one of which was reported stolen in KwaZulu-Natal during October 2024.

On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at approximately 03:25, members of the Ficksburg police were conducting patrols in the business area, which is known for business robbery incidents, when they noticed a Suzuki Dzire sedan parked in a dark area.

Police approached the suspicious vehicle, and one of the passengers fled on foot into nearby bushes. The driver remained inside the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, police recovered two unlicensed firearms and 33 rounds of ammunition.

One of the firearms was circulated and established to have been reported stolen in Thornville, Richmond, KwaZulu-Natal Province.

The suspect has been charged and is expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, on charges of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

Police appreciate the excellent work and dedication displayed by the members involved. The recovery of the two firearms and ammunition contributes significantly towards reducing the proliferation of illegal firearms in communities.
