Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) continued into the second half of 2015 with solid sales, ending July with a 13.3% overall share. Year-to-date Ford remains the second best-selling brand in SA through the retail channel.

The total Ford sales for July reached 6 429 units, which is 1.9% up on the same month last year. Overall, FMCSA’s volumes continue the upward trend, with the total sales year-to-date up by 46%.

*Based on the July 2015 vehicles sales figures distributed by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), July 2015 aggregate new vehicle sales at 54 112 units were down 6.1% from the 57 636 vehicles sold in July last year. Overall, out of the total reported Industry sales of 54 112 vehicles, an estimated 44 564 units or 82.4% represented dealer sales, 11.1% represented sales to the vehicle rental industry, 3.4% to industry corporate fleets and 3.1% constituted sales to government.

“Ford sales are up despite an industry that is down, this shows the continued strong demand for Ford products and the significant strides we have made in our entire model range. We have included more competitive and compelling products, now more than ever in terms of smart technologies, superb performance and efficiency, extremely competitive pricing and overall value for money,” says Ryan Rider, Field Operations and Sales Manager, at FMCSA.

The Ford Ranger ended the month with 2 251 vehicles sold in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment in terms of retail sales through the dealer channel, ending the month on 2 618 units. Year-to-date, Ranger volumes have increased by 38.3% over last year.

“The Ranger remains our star performer, and its success is really evident in the number of sales through the dealer channel despite the evident increasing pressure on consumers.”

The EcoSport has entrenched its spot as the segment leader. The popular EcoSport reached 732 units for the month.

“We’re also delighted with the continued market leadership for the EcoSport, which is evident of the shift towards more practical and versatile vehicles. It’s still a busy and exciting year ahead as far as new vehicle launches are concerned, as the all-new B-MAX is due in August, and will be followed up by the all-new Everest and new Ranger.”
