February 7, 2016 • Accidents, Car

It is believed that 15 to 20 people were injured this morning following a collision between a light motor vehicle and taxi on Rivonia Road in Morningside.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene to find that a light motor vehicle had rear-ended a taxi, which now lay on the grass embankment.

On inspection, paramedics found that numerous patients lay trapped inside the taxi while some lay around the vehicle.

Rescue services used the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped patients from the vehicle.

On assessment, three patients were found to be in a critical condition.

Paramedics treated the critically injured and provided them with advanced life support interventions.

One of the critically injured patients was airlifted by the ER24 Helicopter while the remaining critically injured patients were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals.

The remaining patients on scene were assessed and found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

They were treated and thereafter transported by various services to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
