Bakkie and car collide killing one, injuring three, Pietermaritzburg

A 34-year-old woman was killed and three men injured this afternoon when a bakkie and light motor vehicle collided at the Murray and Walie Road intersection in Hayfield, Pietermaritzburg.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the bakkie and light motor vehicle parked on the side of the road.

On closer inspection, paramedics found a woman lying slumped over the steering wheel of the light motor vehicle in a critical condition. The woman showed no signs of life and require immediate treatment.

Paramedics extricated her from the vehicle and immediately began CPR, as well as providing her with advanced life support interventions.
After 15 minutes of treatment, her vital signs returned and she was rushed to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for further treatment. Unfortunately, on arrival at hospital, the woman finally succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead.

Three men from the bakkie were assessed and found that have sustained only minor injuries.

Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to Edendale hospital for further treatment.
