Two injured after two vehicles collide, Somerset West

April 15, 2016 • Accidents, Car

A man and woman were injured this afternoon when their light motor vehicle collided at the R44 in Somerset West in the Western Cape.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found both vehicles on the side of the road. One of the vehicles had collided with a traffic light and a number of wooden poles before coming to a stop.

On closer inspection, paramedics found a 38-year-old man lying trapped inside his vehicle in a serious condition. Rescue officers from Provincial services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to remove the roof, allowing paramedics access to the patient.

A woman in her 20s was found seated in her vehicle. Fortunately the woman escaped with only minor injuries.

Paramedics treated both patients and thereafter transported them to Mediclinic Stellenbosch and Mediclinic Vergelegen Hospital for further treatment.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
