Pedestrian hit by bakkie critically injured, Pinetown

A man was left critically injured this afternoon after he was hit by a bakkie on the N3 Highway after the Richmond turn-off in Pinetown, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the patient lying in the fast lane of the highway. The driver had pulled his bakkie off the road just a few metres away from the patient.

On assessment, paramedics found that the patient was in a critical condition, having sustained serious injuries to his head and chest.

Paramedics stabilised the patient and provided him with advanced life support interventions. He was thereafter transported to Albert Luthuli Hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the bakkie fortunately did not sustain any injuries.

The details surrounding this incident are subject to the investigation of local authorities.
