Pedestrian killed in road crash Centurion
A woman was killed this afternoon after she was hit by a SUV while crossing the N1 Highway near the Old Johannesburg Road in Centurion.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found the body of the woman lying in the slow lane of the highway. The light motor vehicle had already pulled off to the side of the road.
Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained fatal injuries in the collision. Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for the patient and she was declared dead on scene.
The driver of the SUV, a man, was assessed and found to have sustained minor injuries. He was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
It is believed that 6 people had attempted to cross the busy highway at the time of the collision. The deceased apparently failed to notice the oncoming vehicle.
Traffic was heavily affected for some time due to the incident.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
