Five injured in taxi collision, Woodmead

Five people have been injured this morning after a taxi and light motor vehicle collided at the R55 and Woodmead Drive intersection in Woodmead, Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene and found the two wrecked vehicles in the middle of the intersection.

On inspection, paramedics discovered that the driver of light motor vehicle, as well as the driver of the taxi, both lay in a critical condition. The driver of the taxi also lay trapped inside of his vehicle.

Rescue medics from ER24 used specialised rescue tools to free the man from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics treated both critically injured patients and provided both with numerous advanced life support interventions.

Three other patients, from the taxi, were found walking around on the scene and were assessed. All three patients were found to have sustained minor injuries.

Once treated, all the patients were transported to various hospitals for further treatment by various services.

The exact details are not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
