Truck driver expected to appear in court for culpable homicide and driving without driver’s license

POTCHEFSTROOM – A 26-year-old driver of a truck which allegedly hit a tree and overturned at Lobatla-Driefontein intersection over the weekend is expected to appear in the Lehurutshe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 23 October 2019 on charges of culpable homicide, reckless and / or negligent driving and driving without driver’s license.

The incident resulted in the death of eight learners of which six were certified dead on the scene while the other two passed on at hospitals.

The truck driver expected to appear in court for culpable homicide and driving without a driver’s leniency to produce the license. It came out during the investigation that the suspect was a learner driver and that he had at the time of the incident, a learner’s license. Investigation into the matter continues.
