MEC Nkonyeni to launch a multi-million rand road project to improve the local economy of eDumbe

As part of the roll-out of the Provincial October Transport Month Campaign, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Ms. Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni, will on Friday (08 October 2021) launch the upgrade of main road P303 from gravel to blacktop.

P303 is one of the strategic roads linking the community of eDumbe with important facilities and it serves the farming community of Zululand District. The launch for the second phase of this project is part of the infrastructure roll-out by the provincial government which is part of the Economic Recovery Plan.

This road is located between Makateeskop and Braunschweig under the eDumbe Local Municipality. Phase two will entail the upgrading of 5.74 kilometers from existing gravel to blacktop standards including one bridge structure over the Bazangoma River at a total construction cost of R121, 50 million.

MEC Nkonyeni will be accompanied by the Mayor of eDumbe, Cllr Mavuso, local iNkosi, and other stakeholders.
