Suspects arrested for stock theft and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition
DURBAN – Police in Bulwer arrested three suspects aged between 25 and 36-years-old for stock theft as well as possession of an unlisenced firearm and ammunition in two separate operations conducted on Wednesday, 31 December 2025.
Three cattle were reported stolen at Thonsini area in the Bulwer policing precinct on Monday, 22 December 2025. An intensive investigation by an off-duty police officer resulted in the recovery of two (2) of the three (3) stolen cattle at Shiyabazali area. Two suspects were subsequently arrested. Initial investigation revealed that one of the suspect has been previously arrested for a similar crime. The complainant in this matter was able to positively identify the cattle as the ones that were stolen. Investigations are still ongoing in trying to locate the one cattle that is outstanding.
In another operation, members from Bulwer police station were conducting a roadblock when they stopped a vehicle on the R617 road. Upon searching the driver of the vehicle, an unlicensed firearm was found in his possession. A check of the firearm revealed that it belonged to a deceased person from Klaarwater in Marriannhill. The suspect failed to provide any reasonable explanation on why he was in possession of the deceased firearm. He was subsequently arrested and charged for possession of an unlisenced firearm and ammunition.
All three arrested suspects will appear today, Friday, 02 January 2026, at Hlanganani Magistrates Court.
