High-density Operation Shanela 2 across Gauteng over the weekend.
The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, led a successful high-density #operationshanela2, across the province over the weekend.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 1,084 suspects involved in various serious crimes. Detectives arrested over 700 wanted suspects, with 173 arrests related to crimes against women and children.
During a roadblock at Sophiatown and Langlaagte, 19 individuals were arrested for drunken driving, 26 suspects for possession of drugs, and 48 illegal immigrants were apprehended. One suspect was arrested for murder, one for attempted murder, and two for assault.
Four liquor outlets were closed for non-compliance with regulations. The operation was a collaborative effort between SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, the Johannesburg Metropolitan
Police Department (JMPD), Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, the Community Policing Forum, and private security.
Gauteng Police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and will continue to conduct operations to reduce crime.
