Suspects arrested for the possession of illegal firearms
Police from Vaalbank Crime Prevention Unit were on duty on Saturday, 11 April 2025, at about 23:00, patrolling around Kameelrivier A Main Road when they spotted a man standing on the side of the road and carrying a side bag.
Police approached and searched him. He was found in possession of a 9mm pistol, with a filed-off serial number. He failed to produce a licence to possess the firearm. The 49-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
In a second incident on Sunday, 12 April 2026, at about 03:00, police were patrolling along the R568 road when they spotted a white Toyota bakkie with no registration affixed that passed and stopped at a nearby filling station.
Police followed it with the aim of searching it. The driver, aged 29, was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with a filed-off serial number and ammunition. The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Both accused are expected to appear before Mbibane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 April 2026.
