High-density deployment to execute various crime prevention actions in Free State Province.

Integrated forces that include the South African Police Service, South African National Defense Force, Department of Community Safety Roads and Transport [Traffic], Department of Home Affairs [Immigration], Department of Health, South African Revenue Services, National Prosecution Authority, Mangaung Metro Municipality Law Enforcement, and stakeholders such as Eskom, Centlec and MTN continue to reinforce high-density deployment to execute various crime prevention actions in Free State Province.

The objective of the multidisciplinary actions is to address the proliferation of illegal firearms, illicit drugs; prevent robberies [house -, street – and cross pavement], carjackings, assaults [common and GBH], rape, murder and other serious and violent crimes such as Cash-in-transit heists.

During the past weekly planned operations, Mangaung Metro Crime Combating Unit received a tip-off about a possible ‘Kitchen drug lab’ operating from a house in Kala Street, Bochabela in Bloemfontein. The team reacted swiftly and caught the 40-year-old male by suprise. A thorough search was conducted, and the team seized 1 515 Mandrax tablets, 0.314 kilograms of Methaqualone powder, 3.977 kilograms of Methamphetamine, commonly known as Chrystal Meth, and 0.205 kilograms of Methcathinone or CAT drugs.

The team also seized twelve 25 litre containers with ethanol used to manufacture illegal alcohol. A plastic bag with different foreign currency notes inside was also confiscated. The male suspect was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs as well as manufacturing and distribution of illegal alcohol.

During the operation, the following operational concepts were carried out:

● Second-hand dealers’ premises inspected – 103

A total number of 803 arrests were effected across all Operation Shanela II actions in the five districts. More operational concepts will be carried out in identified crime hotspot areas throughout the Free State Province.
